Al Copeland's Dies!!

Alvin C. Copeland died Sunday, 3/23/08 at a clinic outside Munich, Germany where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer. He was the founder of Popeyes fried chicken restaurants; owner of Cheesecake Bistro and enterprises was diagnosed with Merkel cell carcinoma shortly before this past Thanksgiving. Copeland was 64.

"Mr. Copeland had been a lifelong New Orleanian who built a restaurant empire from one Popeyes store," said Al Copeland, Jr., one of his sons and chief executive officer of Al Copeland Enterprises. "Dad was a fighter, he said. "Throughout this last challenge he remained optimistic and stayed in constant touch with his family and business interests. We were with him at the end."

"He took great heart and strength from the support of the community," he said. "Our family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of prayers and good wishes.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
