Delgado Community College awarded degrees to 526 students from the City Park Campus, the West Bank Campus and the Charity School of Nursing, and nine students graduated from the Louisiana Technical College Region 1 Technical Campuses on Dec. 14 during fall 2007 commencement exercises at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Deborah Lea, vice chancellor of learning and student development, and Robert Lawyer, president of Delgado Faculty Senate, presented honorary degrees to two distinguished business and civic leaders: Charles C. Teamer Sr., chairman of Dryades Savings Bank of New Orleans and chairman of the board of directors of the World Trade Center of New Orleans; and Leon Louis Giorgio Jr., president and CEO of Select Properties Ltd.
Delgado's chancellor, Alex Johnson, conferred the associate degrees, certificates and diplomas to students.
Three students tied for top honors, graduating with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. They are Faith B. Lefort, associate of applied science; Robin L. Walker, associate of general studies; and Gisselle Maria Castellanos Watts, associate of science.
The Charity School of Nursing Honor Pin was presented to Kerryn Margo O'Flaherty. The Honor Pin is the highest award presented by the nursing faculty. The honor goes to a graduating student who meets the criteria of character, nursing ability, scholarship, leadership, participation in school activities, positive influence on the student body, and loyalty to the school. Olivia D. Moliterno had the highest nursing program grade point average. The Daughters of Charity Outstanding Clinical Performance Award was presented to Julie Rabalais Hastings. Linda Ann Barbara won the Sister Stanislaus Malone Award, and Jeffrey Maurice Fauria Jr. received the School of Nursing Award of Distinction. Dawn Mareno Motes was presented the Alumni Association-sponsored Sister Blanche McDonnel Award.
