The Urban League of Greater New Orleans Remembers

Dr. Peter Dangerfield

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and members of The Urban League of Greater New Orleans, we mourn the passing of Dr. Peter Dangerfield and celebrate a lifetime of authentic leadership. Dr. Dangerfield's legacy will live on as one of unyielding commitment to transforming the lives of the least among us - this community has been forever improved because of his work", said Flozell Daniels, Jr., chairman of the board.

Dr. Dangerfield’s exceptional career in the field of socio-economics and political science spanned many years. Dr. Dangerfield’s extensive policy, research and economic development initiatives have been critical to improving quality of life for many New Orleans families, said Nolan V. Rollins, President & CEO of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans. The League would like to thank Dr. Dangerfield and TCA for their continuous support of the Urban League Early Head Start program since 1998, which has enabled the League to provide quality childcare services to over 350 children and families.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Dangerfield turned Total Community Action’s attention to repopulation and rebuilding. Through his efforts, the Urban League Early Head Start Center re-opened quickly in September of 2006, placing the Urban League among the first five centers to open post-Katrina

Dr. Dangerfield was an annual attendee and participant at National Urban League Conferences, and in 2007, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans bestowed its highest honor upon Dr. Dangerfield at its annual Golden Gala.

Dr. Dangerfield’s unwavering determination, compassion and leadership to close the poverty gap is unparalleled. He will be greatly missed and always remembered as a voice for the poor and underserved.

The Urban League of Greater New Orleans, celebrating 70 years, is a non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organization dedicated to empowering communities and changing lives. For more information on the Urban League, visit them online at www.urbanleagueneworleans.org.
