FILL A BAG...FILL A NEED
THANKSGIVING 2008



Giving THANKS during the holidays by GIVING to needy families


During the holiday season, the needs of others are more apparent than other times of the year. For this reason, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans Young Professionals is inviting its members and other young professionals to help meet these needs by participating in our Fill a Bag...Fill a Need Project.

What Do I Need to Do?
Participation in the program is fun and easy. Anyone who wishes to participate may pick up a bag in the lobby of the Urban League Headquarters located at 2322 Canal Street during normal business hours (9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday). There is no required minimum or maximum, but we hope that you will "fill your bag". Bags are available beginning Monday, November 10th. Each participant should then drop off your filled bag at the Young Professionals next monthly meeting on November 20th, which will be held at the Urban League Headquarters. We will collect all bags on November 20th and arrange for pick-up of all bags immediately following the meeting.

What Type of Things Should I Put in My Bag?
You should fill your bag with non-perishable foods. Examples of items to use are: Instant potatoes, stuffing mix, Cranberry sauce, Jell-O mix, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, tea bags, paper products, spaghetti/macaroni, tomato sauce, peanut butter and/or jelly and deserts, such as cake mixes, frosting and brownies.

What if I Can't Pick Up My Bag?
If you are unable to pick up your bag, you may bring your items to the meeting on November 20th and fill your bag at that time.

Although we greatly prefer that you purchase items to fill your bag, if you are unable to do so, we also welcome monetary donations in addition to or in lieu of such items to help defray administrative costs. If you wish to make a monetary donation, please make the check payable to the "Urban League Young Professionals" and mail it to the attention of Ms. Cherie Williams, Urban League of Greater New Orleans, 2322 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Please include "Fill a Bag" in the memo of your check or money order.
