Citizens to Elect Jason Rogers Williams

Dear friends and family,

Exciting News! The Orleans Parish Democratic Election Committee has given Jason Williams its' endorsement for Orleans Parish District Attorney. As stated in the OPDEC press release:

The OPDEC endorsement is highly sought after by Democratic candidates because of the weight it
carries in the New Orleans community. "As elected party officials in touch with the day-to-day issues citizens face," explains OPDEC Chairman, James Gray, "our endorsement represents support for the candidate that we believe would best represent our constituents with the utmost respect for Democratic values."
An OPDEC endorsement is not just a statement of support," says Deborah Langhoff, OPDEC's Vice Chair. The endorsement includes the promise of grassroots organizing and get out the vote efforts coordinated by OPDEC members. "We will do everything in our power to make sure our endorsed Democratic candidates get elected," states Langhoff, "in order to further the Democratic Party's agenda, which emphasizes the security of our nation, strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, honest government, and civil rights." October 4th is only 54 days away. There is a lot of work still to be done. Jason needs your help.

OPDEC has decided to endorse the candidate who represents change and leadership. We all recognize the time for change is now. The only candidate not to train under a previous Orleans Parish District Attorney, he brings no old traditions, habits and practices with him. Practices that clearly have not worked. He owes no favors and has no ties to greedy political machines. OPDEC recognized, as we all have, that Jason has the knowledge, the integrity and the heart and passion to effectuate the necessary changes in the DA's office to give us the safer city we all so desperately want. He is our only hope for change and true leadership.

Unfortunately, these days, being the best man for the job does not ensure a win. Getting the message out is crucial to a successful campaign.

The fact is the other candidates are simply out spending us. As seasoned politicians with political ties and favors owed, their campaigns have been able to spend more money. We are truly a grassroots campaign, a term created to represent an effort that comes from "the soil of peoples hard necessities". We must come together to raise the funds to get Jason's message out. As ready as we all are for change we must not lose this opportunity for our city. We all must rally around Jason and make fund raising a priority. What we risk is witnessing more politics as usual in our city. We risk allowing this election to be won by the candidate who has, and who has spent, the most money.

We recognize that times are hard for everyone right now, but there are many ways in which we can all help. By going to www.jasonwilliamsda.com you can: (1) choose which events are convenient for you to come and show support; (2) stay updated with what is happening in the campaign; (3) communicate with the campaign committee with any comments, suggestions, and/or availability to help, that can include anything from sign locations, hosting a meet and greet, going door to door, making phone calls, etc; and most importantly (4) donate and raise funds.

Please remember, any donation is greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. We have seen what impact a large number of small donations can have on a campaign. Together we can show that our city cannot be bought. Anywhere from $0.50 to $5000.00 can be given. Five thousand is the legal limit that can be given by any one person during the primary. Arrangements can be made to pick up contributions by calling 504-957-5210.

This is a critical time for the city. It is important that we not let this opportunity to implement change and right the proverbial ship slip away from us. As we have seen in other campaigns, every little bit counts. Every sign, every bumper sticker, every pin worn provides an opportunity for discussion and the opportunity to gain another supporter. Every dime allows us to continue this movement with the same momentum as our opponents. Let us all be a part of this exciting opportunity.

Just by forwarding this email to all of your friends and family and to anyone you think would be interested in being a part of this movement, you become part of this grassroots effort. Be a part of the movement.

Thank you for your continued support,
Citizens to Elect Jason Rogers Williams
