BLACK ORLEANS
The rains came And fell on our city And the rains came And fell on our towns The winds came And blew without pity And the winds came And blew our homes down The waves came And roared just like thunder And the waves came And washed us away The darkness came And we lost our security And the thugs came And tore us apart The levees were old And studies had shown They needed repair To hold the waves back Tax cuts for the rich And a war in Iraq We can’t afford fixing With money we lack And George came too Albeit too late From biking around His Texas estate His appointed hack Had proven incompetent And must be replaced George suddenly found money A huge pile of money To divert our attention From FEMA’s mistake And let us be clear Who is to blame For FEMA’s mistake Was George’s mistake And Mother Barbara came To shower icy love On the poor black people Beneath her contempt They had nothing before She declaimed with clear irk And we wondered where George got his revolting smirk But we are Black And our votes don’t matter They are simply lost In the voting booth clatter Yes we are Black And our votes don’t matter And so we will die On the streets of Orleans And the rains came And fell on our city And the waves came And washed us away.
